COMPANY HISTORY
United States Stamp Company, founded in 1928 by legendary philatelist Earl Hamilton, is one of the oldest and most respected companies in the field of rare stamps and collectibles. Throughout the years the company has established a reputation for honesty, integrity and superior knowledge. From its former retail location on Bush Street in San Francisco, widely revered as a historic philatelic landmark, United States Stamp Company has been a beacon for collectors locally and worldwide.
For the past 80 years, the Sankey family successfully owned and operated the company under the direction of Frank Sankey from 1934-1980, and his son Warren from 1962-2014. The Sankey family shared their passion for stamp collecting with many generations of philatelists. Collectors would enjoy searching for stamps to fill their albums in an old-fashioned stamp store environment. The Sankeys and their professional staff were known for excellent customer service. Over the years they assisted in building many great stamp collections. Their iconic San Francisco location was known as the place to go to buy or sell stamps.
Today, United States Stamp Company has transitioned into a new era. In 2014, Warren Sankey decided it was time to retire from his long service to the philatelic community and select a new owner that the family could trust to carry on their well-deserved reputation. Warren chose his longtime associate, well-known California philatelic expert Ron Umile, to succeed him.
Under the direction of Mr. Umile, United States Stamp Company will continue to buy, sell and appraise material, and assist clients with building great collections. Additionally Mr. Umile brings his knowledge of coins, precious metals, paper currency, ephemera, autographs and related collectibles to the new era of United States Stamp Company.
